Wage Records in Workforce Information Project
Introduction
Many states and policy researchers are using unemployment insurance wage records to provide new insight into the dynamic labor market and to provide more comprehensive measures of program effectiveness. Especially when linked with other administrative data sets, wage records are a powerful fool for addressing a wide range of business information needs and public policy concerns.
The Wage Record Committee was formed to develop the framework for a fed/state wage record program. The purpose of this program is to:
Wage record information will support identification and analysis of dynamic labor market change – the creation and destruction of jobs and the growth, the movement of workers between jobs, industries and locations, and the growth and contraction of businesses. Wage record information is also highly valuable for performance measurement in workforce development programs, and program evaluation and research.
The Wage Record Committee developed the July 2003 Symposium on Using Administrative Data to Fill the Workforce Information Gap.
